Reading Recommendation

Well I finally opened a book since Crew was born and my daily chores were put on the back burner for a couple of days. My house is a disaster, the fridge is empty, and the laundry has piled up. But, who cares, the book I just read was awesome. It is from a series called the Great and Terrible and I just read the first book, The Brothers. To sum it up it is about the war in heaven, awesome! In the time before Creation, before so many of the children of God turned away from their Father and walked knowingly into the dark, there was a choosing, a sifting, a contest of ideas and a battle for souls. In that great premortal war, each of us learned the first lessons of life: The great ones may fall. The wicked can change. The weak and the foolish can become the strongest of all. And the battle between good and evil is the same regardless of the time or place.

Thanksgiving in St. George and Go Karting

On Wednesday morning we packed up and went down to St. George with Tylers family. A family friend let us stay in their condo which was awesome. We didn't do much, just hung out, played games, made thanksgiving dinner, and went on the funnest mountain bike trail ever! I'm awful at mountain biking but this was a blast. Me, Tyler, Katie, and Kayelynne went and had a good time. Tyler fell a couple times and I fell into a bush one time. Sand slipped out from under my tire and I couldn't make it up the hill and started falling back. haha didn't hurt but I cut up my leg and was bleeding all over. kinda cool :)

Crew found his voice in St. George and is constantly babbling now. He did pretty good down there but woke up each night, probably because he was in a new place. The last day Tyler came down with a bad cold and Crew just got it too. It is the worst when your kids are sick, you can't do much for them. We took the kids to the park and put Crew in a swing. He loved it, the cutest thing ever to watch.

The Latest

Well Well hello fellow bloggers. What have the Bastians been up to?
* For starters we have been getting to sleep through the night. Little Crew started sleeping all night,10 to 8, about a month ago and it is awesome. Oh sleep, how i have missed you.
* Rook may not ever be walking on his back leg again. I guess he has some pretty bad nerve damage and he may never regain feeling. As of right now he is getting good at using three legs but hopefully with time he will get feeling back.
* I got some sort of flu thing last week. I was down at the tennis club with my mom and had to run to the bathroom to throw up again. Embarrassing! I was up chucking all over the pavement while cars behind me had a front row view of the ordeal. And no I am not pregnant!
* Tyler graduates in December. Wont that be nice to have done.
* Crew is three and a half months old now. Holy Cow! We went and got his pictures taken a couple weeks back and they turned out pretty cute but I think the kid got stage fright. We probably got one smile out of him that was caught on camera. The rest are him looking blankly at the camera. haha
* Our friends were way too nice and took us to the Jazz game last week. Front Row, literally an arms length away from the players. Even though the jazz sucked it was awesome. Thank You so much Mckenzie and Andrew, you guys are so sweet.
* Crew was a pumpkin for halloween. He DESPISED his costume. Everytime we put it on he would scream so it was difficult to get a picture of him.
* New Moon comes out this week. But, I am not as excited as I was for twilight. It will be fun to go see though. Hopefully it wont disappoint.

Now it is time for some pictures.....

Us at the Jazz Game!

Poor Crew hating his costume. We ended up taking it off and painting his face instead.

The Good and The Bad

October 11, 2009. Crew was blessed
Our Baby Boy was blessed by Tyler a few weeks back. Tyler gave a great blessing and the "after party" was delightful. Jordan, my sisters friend, was nice enough to take a few pictures of the day. Here are some of my favorites....

October 17, 20009. Another Family Member Goes Home
Well where do I even begin...It was Saturday morning and I had just returned from the gym and Tyler was leaving to go mountain biking with his dad. I talked to both of them for a bit asking when I should expect them home and said goodbye. Crew had gone down for a nap and I had fallen asleep. I was asleep for a little over an hour when my phone started buzzing. I ignored it. It buzzed again. I ignorned it. Finally the third buzz woke me up and I saw that it had been Rick's cell phone and Katie, my sis in law, cell phone who had been calling. I assumed Tyler and Rick had made it to the top of the mountain and were calling to say hi so I called them back but nobody answered. Shortly after Tyler called me from Rick's cell phone in a panic. I couldn't really understand what he was saying because he was cutting in and out. The only words I understood were dad, not breathing, and life flight. Then the phone went dead. I quickly called my sister in law to see if she knew what was going on but she didn't really know anything more than what I did. I remember thinking that Rick must have crashed and gotten hurt on his bike but he would be okay and everything would be alright. After sitting there for awhile wondering what to do and what was going on I kept trying to get a hold of Tyler but nobody was answering. Several minutes later he called me back and told me to go to the Hospital. I asked him if his dad was okay and he responded "no". I then asked him if he was going to be okay and he said "no". I had no clue what that was suppose to mean but death was never something I had considered. My mom hurried over to watch crew and I hurried up to the hospital praying the whole way up that Rick would be alright. When I finally got there and was walking in I saw one of the helicopter workers talking on the phone about Rick and asked him what was going on. He wouldn't tell me anything, just said that the family was inside. So, I proceeded to find Tyler. I entered this little room with a few chairs to find Tyler, his mom, and Cody sitting in silence. Tyler just looked at me with sad wet eyes and shook his head. Rick was gone. My poor husband was stuck on the mountain yelling for help and trying to lift Rick onto the trail for over twenty minutes. I can't begin to imagine what that must have been like for him. The rest of the week is kinda a blur. Emotionally draining. However, that sunday we had the opportunity to meet elder ballard and have him speak with us for a few minutes. It was very comforting to hear his words and be in his presence. I don't know why this had to happen and honestly I don't think it is fair that Tyler's family would have to go through this again. But, I do know that I don't know everything and things happen for a reason. Rick is happy and well, along with Des and Trav, and we will see them again. As for those of us left here.....we'll be okay and life will go on.

Sad Time

On Sunday night one of the saddest things happened. I drove over to my parents to drop off some stuff I had borrowed. As I was getting out of the car Rook, our little Yorkie, jumped out and started running to the front door. Just as he almost got to the door some dogs from across the street of the circle my parents live in started to bark and triggered Rook to go running. He took off and ran into the road just as a car was coming. My cute little puppy, Rook, ran across the street and was hit by a car. I just stood there not be able to do anything and immediately ran into the house to get my mom and dad screaming "rook just got hit by a car"! They immediately ran outside and I collapsed onto the couch and started bawling because I thought my puppy was dead. My parents found an animal E.R. that was opened and hurried to get him up to it. As they were driving Rook started to open his eyes and wake up. In the mean time I was still bawling on the couch and trying to get a hold of tyler who was at our house with the baby. He was not answering so me and my sister drove over to tell him what had happened. I ran into the house with bloodshot eyes to tell him Rook was hit and then we left to go up to the vet where he was. When we got there they told us that Rook had a 50-50 chance of survival and we had to decide if it was worth the money to us. Seriously? of course it i worth the money to save my puppy, I wasn't just going to give up hope and have them put him to sleep, that is awful. After further medical treatment they told us that Rook had a collapsed lung, a broken leg, some internal bleeding, really bad bruising to the organs, and some of the skin was torn off his leg. So our sweet little friend was not in good shape. That night we had to say goodbye and hope that we didn't receive a call in the middle of the night. Luckily we didn't and when we went to go get Rook in the morning to take him to his regular vet the doctor said that he was doing the best he could do considering his condition. Rook is a little fighter and is currently at the vet in Centerville. As long as he looks like he is doing well they will do surgery on his leg and then he will be coming home soon. The bleeding has stopped and it appears that his lung is repairing itself. He is still in a lot of pain but each day will be better than the last. It is a miracle that Rook is still alive! We are so lucky, we were not ready to say goodbye, lets hope we still get several more years with him.

Good Wishes

The other day I was checking my email and came across this:

"I am thankful:
for the wife who says it's hot dogs tonight, because she is home with me and not out with someone else.

For the husband who is on the sofa being a couch potato, because he is home with me and not out at the bars.

For the teenager who is complaining about doing dishes because it means she is at home, not on the streets.

Foe the taxes I pay because it means I am employed.

The mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends.

The clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat.

my shadow that watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine.

A lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaned, and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.

For all the complaining I hear about the government because it means we have freedom of speech.

For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking and I have been blessed with transportation.

For my huge heating bill because it means I am warm.

For the lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means I can hear.

For the pile of laundry and ironing because it means I have clothes to wear.

For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been capable of working hard."

It came at a perfect time when I was just complaining about always having to pick up Tylers shoes, how the laundry never ends, my house always manages to get messy no matter how often I pick it up, how there is never enough time in the day, and how I am sick of all of our money going to taxes. But I guess in a crazy way I need to learn to be grateful for these things. Thank You email, you couldn't have come at a more appropriate time.

2 Months

Crew is already two months old....I really can't believe it. Yesterday I took him to the doctor and he weighs just under 11 pounds (33 percentile) and is 21.5 inches long (10th percentile). So he is just a little guy right now but I am sure he will start growing. But ya know what if having a short little boy is the worst of my problems I will be extremely lucky. At least he is healthy! When we were at the doctor they had to give him a bunch of shots in his legs and it was the saddest thing ever. He started bawling and you could tell by the look on his face that he was in so much pain. But on a lighter note he is starting to smile and follow us with his eyes which is adorable. And night times are getting better each week. I still wake up once in the night with him but compared to what it was in the beginning weeks I am a happy camper. Here are some recent pictures (above) of the little one. Most of the pictures are on Tylers phone and since he is out of town I will post them later so this is a few of what I have.

For Reals

This person

got a call Thursday night to go to this place. He left this morning at 4:00 am and will be gone until Tuesday.

These two people are not very happy about being left behind. No fair.

He goes on a cruise while I am pregnant and puking my guts out, then he goes to Las Vegas and now this. Jealous! I think a girls trip is seriously needed.

Random Things

Okay so this past week Tyler and Cody got to go to the racetrack in Tooele and "race" their cars. Me and Crew tagged along to watch. The racetrack was over 4 miles long so I only saw a portion of the race, the rest of the time we were watching the U.S. Open.

Look closely....I had to snap a picture of these two because I noticed that they were wearing the exact same shirts and hats. Dorks!

Crew cheering on Daddyo

Me and Tyler watching Nic, my little brothers tennis match at Liberty Park.

Me and the Baby....Crew is already getting use to the tennis life. Let's face it, like Tyler will give him a choice. :)

My parents with Crew. I love having them around. I always get a nice break because he is the first grandchild on my side.

Changing gears....Burp time.

He loves the luv sac. Always taking naps in it.

Our New Life

Well what they say is true, having a baby changes everything.....

BEFORE Crew was born me and Tyler would,
sleep in on the weekends (and a lot of the weekdays)
take naps whenever we wanted
go out on weekends
have uninterrupted meals
stay up late and watch movies
go to the gym TOGETHER
and we thought having a little dog, Rook, was a lot of responsibility

NOW,
we are up every 3 hours at night
lucky to get a daytime nap
realize that most of the time it is easier to stay in than go out
spit up on, peed on, and pooped on
and we now know that having a dog is a piece of cake

BUT,
as sappy as this sounds it is so worth it! I love our little guy. I want him to stay little forever and it makes me sad that he is already one month old. It went by so dang fast.

OH YEA and life is going even better now that Tyler is officially home. And I must brag about how helpful my husband is for a minute. Apparently most guys don't think it is their job to ever get up in the middle of the night with their baby. I don't expect it but Tyler is always helping out and has even woken up and fed him at night (on more than one occasion) so that I could get a few more hours of sleep. He was telling me how most guys think he is crazy that he helps out like that and it made me realize just how great he is. So thanks Babe!

JH Photography of Baby Crew

You guys are probably getting sick of seeing nothing but our baby but I couldn't resist posting a few of these adorable pictures taken by Jen. Thanks Jen!

Oh and I need to say Happy 3 years to us. Tyler is quite the guy for dealing with me that long. Wahoo...to many more to come.

Baby Face

I can't get enough of his little face. I could stare at him for hours. This past week has been eventful and I am starting to feel like I sorta kinda know what I am doing and am getting into a routine. I miss my sleep but my body is starting to adjust and my mom has been an absolute lifesaver while Tyler has been out of town. One more week and he will be home! I feel bad for him he says that he doesn't feel like he even has a baby because he had to leave so soon after he was born, poor guy. Anyways, life is great and I am so happy that Crew is here and healthy. He is such a sweet little baby boy and I am so excited he is finally here. His hair is starting to lighten and his cheeks and double chin are growing in size. He is such a cutie.

Let the two weeks of single parenting begin....

Yes that is right, since Crew decided to come early Tyler had to go back to Philadelphia for two long weeks. Believe me I begged him and cried like a baby for him to stay but unfortunately there wasn't really a way to miss a month of the summer. So, on Friday I dropped him off at the airport and the countdown has begun. I was a wreck the rest of the day....bawling uncontrollably (yes I know this was due partly to my out of wack hormones). I feel awful that Tyler has to be away from Crew for two weeks, he is going to change so much. Oh I can't wait for him to come home and this summer sales crap to be over! Anyhow I was looking through our pictures and came across some that Tyler must have taken when I was taking a nap one day this week. I thought they were hilarious, and now I know what goes on while I am sleeping :) enjoy.

Our Baby Story

Okay let me begin. It was Saturday August 1st...Tyler was in Philadelphia working and I went to my Aunt and Uncles pool with my sister. I was planning to be induced around the 15th. Around 3:00 we left the pool and I went home to take a nap. I thought it was kinda weird how much "pool water" I was leaking so I looked on the internet to see how you could tell if your water broke. It said to lay down for a little bit and see if the leaking stops. So I did just that. About an hour later I woke up from my nap and my bed was wet. I decided to get in the shower and head over to my parents to ask my mom if I should be concerned. I didn't want to be one of those girls that runs to the hospital only to find out it was a false alarm. Well about an hour later I was in the car with my mom and two sisters headed to the hospital only to be told that my water had definitely broke. I called Tyler and told him to get home ASAP because we were going to be having our baby. So, he booked the first flight out; a one way that was $1000. Ridiculous! He wouldn't be landing until 10:30 the following morning so I had all night of waiting for him. They gave me a sleeping pill and I fell asleep until about 3:00 when my contractions began to hurt. It took the epidural guy 3 times to get the needle in but I was so out of it from the pain and sleeping pill I didn't even care. After that it was smooth sailing until the nurse realized I had progressed way to fast if I wanted Tyler to make it in time. So she said as long as the babies heartbeat stayed steady we could wait....and wait we did. Crew was a fighter. Tyler was contacted on the plane and told to exit first because his baby was coming. He ran through the airport and hopped in my dads car where they ran every red light possible. As Tyler ran down the hospital hall the nurses were cheering because he had made it. He ran into the room and the baby was born 5 minutes later! It was so surreal. After Crew was born he was taken from us because he was having a hard time breathing. I am so glad I didn't really know about this at the time, the nurses did a good job and downplaying the whole situation. We ended up staying in the hospital with our bay boy until Friday afternoon when they finally released us. I know that Des and Trav were with him helping him out which was really comforting to think about. It was so good to finally go home and see Crew without all the wires and IV's hooked to him but it was sad saying goodbye to some of the sweet nurses who took care of our little boy. It has been a few day since we have been home and I have to say that I never thought I could love him so much. Crew is the sweetest little baby and Tyler is such a big help. I really do love being a mom although I miss my 10 hour a night sleep sessions. :)

Let the night begin.

Our baby has arrived!

Every time I saw him I would tear up. It was awful seeing him like this.

Sweet baby boy

Seriously!

Wow, bare with me for a moment people. As if being pregnant wasn't enough, me and Tyler came down with Bronchitis last week. Nope, doesn't end there the antibiotics have given me a drug rash so I now sit with the most disguisting looking rash covering my entire body from head to foot. I want to tear my skin off, I itch so bad. Okay, I am now done venting....Have a happy day!
